The working from home debate continues to prevail, with some people believing that a full week in the office is the only way forward and others opting for the fully remote option. At Marshall Wolfe, in my opinion, we have the best of both worlds; working from the comfort of your own home to start and end the week (Monday and Friday) and working in a lively and buzzing office during the middle of the week (Tuesday to Thursday).
In the beginning, I found working from home difficult to adjust to. As a very chatty person, I enjoy being able to sit at my desk surrounded by others catching up on what was done over the weekend and I love debating about which series on TV is the best to watch (I’m loving The Crown at the moment!). I have now come to realise and love the flexibility it brings to my working week and really appreciate the extra time that I can utilise to do other things. My lunches when working from home are spent catching up with my Grandparents, going for a run along the beach or even getting jobs done at home!
When we head into the office the whole team is in and we are very lucky with the location; our office is based in a working boatyard with some very unique working spaces! We also ensure that we are all back in the office full time when a new team member joins the wolfepack; I really appreciated this when I began my journey at Marshall Wolfe as it meant I had all the support required and I felt comfortable transitioning into the hybrid model.
More employers are moving into the hybrid working model with a prediction that the majority of Gen Z may not ever work in an office full time. How do you feel about remote working and where do you think the future of work is heading to?
