Careers Fair

Career fairs – what is the point?

Last week I had the opportunity to represent Marshall Wolfe at the University of Suffolk’s full-time opportunities marketplace careers fair, and what a great turnout it was.

Students from a variety of courses had the chance to research what work in their chosen field looks like, network with employers and know where to look after they graduate. I was able to engage with future data scientists, cyber security analysts and even potential recruiters on their route into employment!

My top tip for students is to attend as many events as they can in the run-up to their final year in preparation for life beyond academia. It can be beneficial for so many different reasons but here are a few highlights:

  • Network and connect with business leaders in your desired field that could lead to future opportunities.
  • The chance to have an insight into what companies in your preferred industry are looking for.
  • Stuck with what to do next; this is a great way to explore new opportunities that you may not have considered before.
  • Increase your confidence in professional and social environments.

It is great to see these events returning in person for the students; and personally quite nostalgic for me returning to this event at the University of Suffolk as a potential employer rather than a student this time round.
